SITE: Castelnaud

In some heritage sites the multiple layers at work are so lively – absurd, political, poignant, sublime – that the meanings of these sites simply refuse to be pinned down.
These are exemplary sites for sensitising adventurous visitors to the multiplicity of layers.
Such sites might include the little Walnut Museum near Castelnaud where everything tries so hard to convince the visitor of the virtues of a nut that a nightmare vision of a world made entirely of walnut starts to form.
